About Bio Glitter
Bio glitter is sometimes referred to as Eco glitter, is an eco-friendly alternative to traditional plastic based glitter (PET) and has been developed to tackle the part of micro plastic pollution created by glitter.
Bio glitter replaces the polyester film used in traditional glitter with cellulose from hardwoods, primarily eucalyptus sourced from responsibly managed and certified plantations operating standards.
How is it made?
The plant cellulose is dyed with cosmetic grade dyes and then covered with the tiniest amount of aluminium in order to give it its shine. The cellulose is then fed through a glitter cutting machine and cut to the desired size and shape.
How long does it take to biodegrade?
The time taken for the glitter to biodegrade depends on a number of factors. If water, warmth and micro-organisms are all present then the rate will be faster. The glitter is home compostable and the best place for it is in soil as all the ingredients are present.
